Premier League’s Nicklas Bendtner fined £5,000 for driving without licence or insurance

30 July 2012

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has been fined £4,750 by magistrates and had six penalty points added to his licence after being stopped for driving without a licence or insurance.

Policebooked the Danish international in South Tyneside on 13 May 2011 after the 24-year-old was found driving his £40,000 Audi whilst uninsured and without a valid driving licence.

Bendtner was charged with driving without the correct licence, using a vehicle without insurance and two counts of driving a vehicle with a registration plate not conforming with regulations.

When police asked why he had no insurance or proper number plates on his Audi, Bendtner allegedly replied that he had a 'friend who sorts that out for me.'

The court heard that the striker had no licence after failing to re-apply for it having receiving a 56-day driving ban for speeding in February.

In March, Bendtner was accused of vandalising cars and charged with five counts of criminal damage.   But he was cleared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court along with Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole, who eventually accepted conditional discharges for the £4,168.27 damage caused in the wrecking spree.

The same court banned Bendtner from driving for 56 days after he was caught driving his Porsche 911 at 103mph.

In September 2009 The 24-year-old miraculously escaped serious injury after annihilating his £150k Aston Martin when he ran into a tree on his way to training one Sunday morning.  His father, Thomas Bendtner said Nicklas “knows he was very lucky” but we understand that Nicklas continued to suffer back problems two years following the accident.
