Premier League striker Guly do Prado arrested for ‘driving erratically while drunk'

Premier League striker Guly do Prado has been charged with drink driving after officers spotted his his black Porsche Panamera ‘driving erratically’ in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday morning.

Taxi drivers waiting outside a local nightspot watched in surprise as the 6ft 2ins star was beckoned from the£70,000 coupe by traffic police.

A Southampton-based taxi driver who witnessed his arrest today said: 'I was parked at a taxi rank outside the lap dance club For Your Eyes Only.   'I saw a flash, black Porsche come round the corner from the direction of Bedford Place, heading towards the Ocean Village area where Guly lives.  He was then followed by an estate police patrol car with the blues and twos going.  He had three passengers with him - a black guy, a white guy and a very attractive, slim girl with dark hair.

'The cops didn’t arrest him immediately as they seemed to be talking to him for about ten minutes and then a van pulled up too and they loaded him into the back of that.  One of the officers also got into his car and drove it across the street and parked it in a parking space.

“I’m a Saints fan and this isn’t what you want to see from your top players.'”

Another witness, who did not want to be named, said: “I saw this Porsche drive by with the blues and twos behind it and it pulled over just in front of Ranchos.

“The next thing I saw was Guly getting handcuffed and carted off in a police van that had turned up to take him away.”

Hampshire Police released a statement saying: 'Police are able to confirm a 30-year-old Southampton man was arrested and subsequently charged for driving a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit’.

'The arrest followed after police officers noticed a vehicle being driven erratically in the High Street, Southampton, at approximately 4.35am Monday, August 27.

'The man - 30 year-old Raymundo, Guilherme Do Prado - has been bailed to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court next month.'

Southampton's Guly Do Prado fined for drink-driving

12 September 2012

Southampton footballer Guly Do Prado has admitted drink-driving.

The 30-year-old Brazilian was arrested in the early hours of 27 August after his Porsche was seen being driven erratically on Southampton High Street.

The Premier League striker, whose full name is Guilherme Do Prado Raymundo, was fined £2,600 at the city's magistrates' court.

He received a 12 month driving ban, reduced to nine if he takes a driver safety course.

The court heard police had followed the Brazilian's £70,000 black Porsche Panamer following reports of a possible drink-driver.

He was stopped and failed a breath test and was found to have 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

In mitigation, Philip Somarakis said Do Prado was "respectful and compliant".

"He is very sorry to be appearing before the court and bringing unwanted attention on him and his club," he added.

A spokesman for Southampton FC declined to comment on the case and said the matter had already been dealt with internally.
