Manchester City defender Courtney Meppen-Walter has been charged with two counts of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.  Police in Manchester have been investigating following the deaths of Kulwant Singh and Ravel-Kaur Singh on 1 September 2012.

The brother and sister died when their Nissan Micra collided with Mr Meppen-Walter's silver Mercedes on Bury New Road in Manchester.

Police Sergeant Danny Byrne, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: 'This has been a very complicated and sensitive investigation and we have liaised closely with the Crown Prosecution Service throughout our inquiries.

'As a result, the Crown Prosecution Service have now authorised two charges of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

'I know there has been a lot of speculation and media interest in this incident, but it is now more important than ever that we do not speculate about what happened.

'This case, and the facts, will be heard before a court and it is important we respect the integrity of that legal process.'

Meppen-Walter has been on the books at City since 2010 and has represented England at Under-17 level,but has yet to play for Manchester City's first team.  

The 18-year-old is due at Manchester Magistrates' Court on 7 February.
